Before you start practicing witchcraft, or any magickal path, you should know a few things first. Why do you want to go down this path? How do you become a witch? And are you prepared for some of the “baggage” that such a beautiful path comes with? Here are some things you should know and consider before starting on your path.
What is a witch?
A witch is someone who practices witchcraft, and any person can practice magick. Race, gender, and religion can’t determine who can or cannot be a witch. But, race can play a part in which type of witchcraft you decide is right for you (Celtic Wicca, Voodoo, etc). And gender can determine if you want one deity of the same gender as you. And religion can give you more structure within your craft. Having a certain race, gender, or religion does not, will not, and can not make you any more, or any less, of a witch. As for appearance. you do not have to look or dress a certain way to be a witch either.
Are you considering practicing witchcraft?
You should really first ask yourself why you are considering being a witch. Are you wanting to use witchcraft as a way to rebel against your religious parents? Did you watch movies about the craft and want to learn how to get your desires fulfilled instantly? Do you want to make your crush love you, or make your enemy fear you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, witchcraft is not for you. If you answered no to all of the previous, feel in tune with nature (or you want to be), enjoy meditation, and love natural products and remedies, then witchcraft might just be for you.
There are some things to consider before deciding if witchcraft is for you….
It needs to be stated that witchcraft is an amazing art form and can accomplish great things. But many people don’t think so. Witches are discriminated against and persecuted for their practice from others: Not just by non-magickal folk, but by other witches. Some witches can be snobby and just as hurtful as people who are not. Not all witches will want to help you along your path, or even socialize with you. There are “fake” witches who try to give out bad or wrong information. There are still witch hunts going on today. These hunts are most popular in Africa and India, but they do happen in other countries as well. People can look down on you, make you feel inferior, try to save or convert you, and a lot more hurtful garb. People can, and usually do, ask really ridiculous questions like: do you eat babies, do you want to burn in hell, you’re not gonna curse me right? You need to realize that witchcraft is misunderstood. People will judge you, hurt your feelings, and down right degrade you. It’s a part of the path we all have to walk down some time or another. Before you jump into spells and rituals, you should have a very long study period, where absolutely no magickal work is being practiced. Magick can backfire if you are uneducated and no nothing of the craft.
How do I become a witch?
There is no magickal limerick or sacred ritual that one can perform that will make you become a witch. Being a witch starts with acknowledging a spiritual way of life, and using the law of attraction in your favor. So, to become a witch, you must first begin to study. You cannot be a witch, if you know nothing of the craft. You should read and study from multiple authors and sources, this way, you can learn many different paths to find and shape your own. You should track your progress and save any information that you find useful in your Book of Shadows, grimoire, etc. It is not mandatory to have one, but it is highly recommended.
To be a witch….
For you to be a witch, you must continue to study and define your path for years to come. Witchcraft is way of life and it isn’t something you can learn in a year, or two. There will always be more to learn, and it takes years upon years (decades really) to harness and perfect the craft. Witches meditate, record and decipher dreams, and use natural alternatives. To be a witch means to not only help yourself forge your own path, but help others along their way too. A witch becomes in tune with himself and strives to make himself a better person. A witch appreciates all living creatures, even those that oppose her. A witch should spend time in nature and around animals. A witch should always try to have an understanding of herself, and others around her.
Keep in mind, all of these are based on my opinions I found from my research. You may disagree or have something to add. Please do so kindly in the comments.
Blessed be, brothers and sisters.
